The Tale of Fancy Part 2

Okay. So. A QH for $500. Not quite, but let's get this show on the road!

It just so happens that on the day of the auction, at the time of the auction, we were attending a friend's wedding anniversary. So what does any reasonable horse person do at her horse friend's anniversary? Beg to use her computer and wifi to stalk an online auction where she's "definitely not buying a QH online.. unless they go super cheap. Then maybe." LoL yeah yeah, we all know how this went.

I had one other young horse on my list and it was slowing down around 1500, so I asked Logan, "should I bid on him?" and he yelled back, "NO!" So.. I didn't. Half an hour later, Fancy came up, I asked the same question, and the response was, "Do whatever you want." So.. I did. And my one bid was the winning bid!! I was so excited, I did a little dance and drank a bit, then went home and went to bed.

Then... I tossed and turned and had nightmares all night, wondering what exactly I had been THINKING!?!? What kind of IDIOT! buys a horse sight unseen from an auction from... SOUTH DAKOTA!!? Like, how do I even get her? What if she's a vicious evil mare? What if she's... SHERWOOD!? (Okay, this is your first intro to Sherwood, my alter ego. She has her own story post in all my blogs because as much as I hate her, I love her. And vice versa, I'm pretty sure. But for this moment, all you need to know is that Sherwood has been called, "... a terrible horse," for many many reasons by a person who knows her very well- and not me!)

Logan went off to work, probably cursing my name for keeping him up all night with my tossing and turning, so then I was left to obsess all on my own. No good. Thank God for friends who call and tell you they have wine, come over! (At 8 am, mind you.)

There was pacing, and probably a little crying, tons of headshaking, and not a small amount of regret, especially after we called her old owner, who said, I quote, "She paces like a caged tiger," and "She's a speedy mare." Great. I wanted an old brokedown horse to walk my husband down the trails and I got a speedy tiger. Fucking fantastic. So, Chelsea and I spent a good portion of the morning setting up a rescue to take her, transport to get her to the rescue, and actually calling Krogman Ranch to see if I could give them board for her to sit there for a little while. The upside to calling the ranch was that the son was suuuuper nice, assured me they'd hold onto her for nothing, and just let us know the timeline- no rush! Okay.. Cool. So.. My cheap, broke, ranch QH experiment was officially considered a failure when the bills racked up to $5000 and we weren't even going to own her. Not for even a second. All my fiscal buttons pushed, I was torn between throwing away money and making sure I did not get another Sherwood. I decided the risk of 2 Shers was well worth dropping $5000 to make this horse disappear. LMAO Seriously. If nothing else tells you how I feel about Sherwood, that should be the statement of her lifetime. So, decisions made, appointments set, I called Logan to let him know.

And... he told me, in no uncertain terms, that we were driving out to South Dakota to pick up this mare, and then we'd see what we had and figure it out. At home. With Miss Fancy.

Well, then. Onto Part 3!
